How to Care for Your KUNSTEN Clogs: A Simple Maintenance Guide
Handmade shoes last longer when they're looked after, and KUNSTEN clogs are no exception. Between the hand-shaped aspen wood sole and the suede or leather upper, there are only a few simple things to keep in mind. Nothing complicated, just a little care that goes a long way.
Caring for the wood sole
Aspen is a lighter, more flexible wood than the dense oak or beech traditionally used in clog-making, and each KUNSTEN sole is finished and sealed by hand. To care for the wood, simply wipe it clean with a slightly damp cloth and avoid soaking it in water. Allow it to air dry naturally and keep it away from direct heat. If the wood begins to look dry or dull after extended wear, a very light application of natural beeswax can help condition and refresh the surface.
Caring for suede and leather uppers
Suede does best with a dedicated suede brush. A few light strokes help lift dirt and restore the natural nap after wear. For leather uppers, use a soft cloth and an occasional leather conditioner to keep the material soft and supple. Avoid heavy waterproofing products unless they are specifically made for suede or leather. When not in use, store your clogs in a cool, dry place away from prolonged direct sunlight to help keep the natural materials looking their best.
If they get wet
Natural materials can handle a little rain. If your clogs get particularly wet, gently remove any excess moisture and let them dry naturally at room temperature. You can loosely fill them with paper to help maintain their shape while drying. Avoid direct heat and simply give the wood, suede or leather time to dry naturally.
Storage between wears
Store your clogs in a dry, well-ventilated place rather than a sealed box. Good airflow helps protect the natural materials and keeps them looking their best over time.
Built to last, not to be babied
None of this is high-maintenance. It is the same basic care any well-made natural-material shoe deserves. Treat them reasonably and a pair of KUNSTEN clogs will outlast the trend cycle by years.
